 bringing art into children's lives

The Village Artist welcomes children 3+ to their art center. Small classes with individualized attention create a perfect environment for young artists to be inspired and learn.

exploring art together

Young artists (ages 2 - 3 1/2 yrs) have the opportunity to explore the world of art with a parent (caretaker) by their side. Process vs. product type projects will be Introduced to the young artist, so they enjoy their creative time. Painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, crafts, and sculpture are the visual arts introduced in this course. The goal of these classes is to familiarize our young artist with different materials to enjoy and explore their creativity while bonding with their parent.

exploring art

Young children explore the art world in many ways throughout this course. They will be introduced to drawing, painting, sculpting, printmaking, and wood crafts. Watercolors, acrylic, pastel, charcoal, ink, clay, wood and pencil are some of the mediums students will experience.

fine art studio (ages 6 to teens) includes the following:

  • basic drawing - Learn the fundamentals of drawing - composition, contour line, value, texture, and proportions. Still-life, portraits, animals, and landscapes are the subjects studied to improve drawing skills. Pencil, charcoal, and ink are the mediums covered in this course.
  • cartooning - Students will study famous cartoonists and their work as well as create their own cartoons. They will do individual character drawings, as well as comic strip creations. Pencil, ink, marker and watercolor pencils are the mediums introduced in this course.
  • clay sculpture - Clay is the medium brought to life in this exciting 3-D course. Both additive / subtractive methods will be taught. Sculpting techniques will be introduced as students mold animal figures and other sculptures.
  • drawing and painting - Drawing and painting techniques are emphasized in this course with the goal being to improve the young artist's skills. Students will be working with a variety of mediums (charcoal, ink, pencil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic and oil paint). Still-life setups, reference pictures, photos and student's imaginations will be used to inspire their artwork.
  • charcoal and pastel - In charcoal, students learn about value studies, composition, proportion, etc. Pastel builds on those same concepts. We introduce color exploration. Students will explore both realistic and abstract styles.

fashion design (ages 9 to 12)

Welcome to the world of fashion. Students will learn how to draw fashion figure using templates then progress to free-hand proportional accurate drawing. They will have the opportunity to dress the figure in their own creations. Projects will include current classical and seasonal clothing designs and accessories.

special needs classes

Customized classes are designed to give the unique artists a positive experience. Our art educators work with parents / therapists to create a special program that suits the individual's / group’s needs. They will have the opportunity to paint, sculpt, draw, craft, etc. in a nurturing and friendly environment. Process vs. product will be emphasized while exploring the different mediums. In the past 22 years, we have been fortunate to teach the highly creative and enthusiastic individuals in a private or group setting.
